A letter from Dr. Alex Walley: Help grow the addiction medicine field
Dear Colleagues,
The American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM) is built from our members’ determination and passion for advancing academic addiction medicine. With our first year of membership coming to a close, we are so grateful for your energy, ingenuity, and focus to create a healthier future for those across this nation who need high-quality substance use care.
Looking back on this past year, we have made substantial strides to ensure that our fellowship program members are set up for success in the future. ACAAM has:
- Invested in pipeline development efforts to grow the base of potential fellow applicants
- Organized and convened fellowship programs to bring addiction medicine into the NRMP Match for 2022
- Provided ongoing, weekly didactic sessions that help you meet your ACGME requirements
- Developed a 14-point action-oriented anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion plan
- Advocated for and represented addiction medicine fellowships with allied organizations such as ASAM, AMERSA, and AAAP
- Celebrated the achievements of graduating fellows with the ACAAM Graduation Event in June 2022
We do this with fellowship program members’ help, support, and inspiration and are appreciative of it.
The upcoming 2022-2023 ACAAM strategic planning process will continue to bring us together as a membership organization, to collaborate, and to determine the organization’s future. As the organization’s President-Elect, I’m looking forward to our continued partnership in the year ahead.
Your engagement and leadership within ACAAM are an important part of this vision.
ACAAM is committed to supporting your institution and advancing the critical missions of academic addiction medicine by providing you with member benefits, networking opportunities, and relevant educational content.
We hope your institution will continue to partner with ACAAM by renewing your membership for the 2022 – 2023 academic year.
We appreciate those who have already renewed and encourage others to continue to be part of ACAAM’s mission to promote academic excellence and leadership in addiction medicine.
We look forward to all that the upcoming year brings and hope to see you back as members.
Sincerely,
Alexander Y. Walley, MD, MSc
