Part 2 of the ACAAM Early Career Education Series is coming up on Wednesday, January 17, from 3-4 pm ET. Join us for a presentation on "Dissemination of Your Work and Research Through Manuscripts and Conference Submissions." This is the second part of a three-part series for fellows, recent program graduates, and junior faculty.

The final session will be held on February 15 at 3 pm ET.

Join us for the second part of our ACAAM Virtual Learning Series, "Leveraging ACGME Requirements to Create a Community-Based Addiction Medicine Rotation to Educate and Mentor Internists in Harm Reduction," on Thursday, January 11, from 3-4 pm ET. This FREE session is the second part of a three-part series geared toward faculty in established and emerging fellowship programs, although all are welcome.

The final session will be held on April 18 at 3 pm ET. 

ACAAM honors veterans and addiction medicine specialists who served their country this Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, we honor our veterans and share our profound gratitude for their sacrifices. We also thank the addiction medicine specialists who tirelessly treat veterans with substance use disorders and lead them into recovery. This year, we'd like to highlight two addiction medicine specialists who not only treat veterans, but were veterans themselves.

ACAAM recently partnered with AOD Health to recruit the publication’s first-ever Richard Saitz Editorial Intern. Congratulations to this year’s recipient, Corey McBrayer, DO, from OhioHealth! Dr. McBrayer will join AOD Health Associate Editors to co-author summaries of current addiction medicine literature. This internship also includes participation in podcasts, interviews with authors, and more. Congratulations again to Dr. McBrayer, and thank you to all who applied for this opportunity!

REACH Application Deadline is June 30

ACAAM is a proud partner in REACH (REACH: Recognizing and Eliminating disparities in Addiction through Culturally informed Healthcare), which is supported by a federal grant to the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.

Minority candidates for 2023-24 Addiction Medicine fellowships are encouraged to apply for the REACH Scholar program, which provides funding as well as additional training, mentorship and scholarly activity.

ACAAM would like to thank the more than 70 addiction medicine physicians who provided volunteer service to the organization in 2021. From service on the Board of Directors, Committees, an Task Forces, to serving as a leader of our new Recruitment Fair and other programs, these leaders served in a variety of ways and provided significant support to ACAAM as it continued its efforts to meet its mission.

As the year comes to a close, thank you for your ongoing efforts and continued support of the organization. And if you are an ACAAM member who would like to get involved in the organization, please feel free to share your interest with ACAAM staff by emailing [email protected].

ACAAM has an opportunity for members to share their interest in joining the organization’s Anti-Racism/Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee for 2022.

This opportunity will allow you to work with several accomplished and returning committee members to develop, implement, integrate, and support strategies and activities to achieve priority goals related to anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion and to create an equitable and welcoming environment within ACAAM.

At its December meeting, ACAAM’s Board of Directors approved a slate of new officers for the organization, who officially take office on January 1, 2022, and serve in the roles through December 31, 2023.

At its December 2021 meeting, the ACAAM Board of Directors honored outgoing Board members who have spent significant time and provided tremendous effort to ensure the organization has been successful over the last decade plus.

These Board members were devoted stewards of both the American Board of Addiction Medicine and the several iterations of the organization that is today known as ACAAM. Their dedication and wisdom will be missed, but will not be lost, as they will be regularly called upon for advice and involvement.

More than 30 ADM Fellowship Programs Enrolled as ACAAM Members

The American College of Addiction Medicine (ACAAM) has established itself as the go-to resource and advocate for academic addiction medicine fellowship programs. Today the organization is excited to announce it has exceeded 30 fellowship program institutional members, with a total of 32 programs currently enrolled. The ACAAM membership program was launched in May 2021.

“We are ecstatic to see fellowship programs enrolling as members and unlocking access to valuable benefits and resources for the faculty and fellows in their programs,” says ACAAM Membership Committee Chair, Alex Walley, MD. “The more programs that join our ACAAM membership coalition, the stronger our voices will be as we continue to advocate for resources needed to expand a fellowship-trained addiction medicine workforce.”
