VA Funding for ACGME Fellowships under “VACAA”

The VA has opened the application period for funding rotations sponsored by ACGME-accredited residencies and fellowships in VA facilities under the VACAA GME Enhancement program.

Applications are to be submitted by the local VA facility where the rotation is planned. The deadline is June 7, 2019.

Fellowships that have or expect to have ACGME accreditation by the June 7 deadline are encouraged to contact the Designated Education Officer (DEO) of their local VA.

The VACAA GME Enhancement program provides permanent funding for time spent training in VA facilities. Applications may be submitted for new positions or those already operating as “temporary positions.” (VACAA is the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014.)

While only VA DEO’s may submit applications, fellowship Program Directors must work with them and appropriate VA attendings to plan the rotation(s) for which VACAA GME funding is requested. Program Directors must also provide a Letter of Support that includes attestation of ACGME accreditation and evidence of departmental support for the application. A Letter of Support from the fellowship’s Designated Institutional Official is also required.
